Infomania!

I found this really funny. They don't do a terrific job editing out the bad words, so don't watch this with the kids around. It is a video from Current TV, which airs on channel 196 if you have dish.

Also, if you're a science junky or a wannabe like me, you'll enjoy this video about black holes. It's kind of a tease and makes you want to see the next one in the series. They do a good job with it though and it is worth the five minutes you'll invest to watch it.

Eric Hutchinson: Young, Talented & Funny!

Eric Hutchinson is giving his fans a holiday treat by writing four songs based on E-mails they send in about their lives. The first song he wrote and posted was based on a story from a fan named Kristina who thought her biology teacher was a little weird. Hutchinson titled it, "My Bio Teacher is a Druggie." The next fan-inspired song will be posted Monday on EricHutchinson.com.

A much need September 2009 update!

This is obviously my last chance to get a blog in this month. I have a bit of a decent excuse for not posting one already, besides spending too much time on Facebook and Twitter, I had surgery this month and spent three days in the hospital. They took out my gallbladder and a two inch section of my Omentum. The latter was actually what was causing the pain but they couldn't tell that for sure until they were doing their thing. It felt like it was my appendix but really the Omentum was twisted and the blood supply was cut off from it. I'm pretty much healed right now and glad everything went ok. We are not too excited about the pending doctor bills though.

I am excited about this Thursday's Live on the Green. Lightning 100's FREE! all ages outdoor concert series in downtown Nashville, in front of the metro courthouse on public square plaza. This week's show will feature Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker, and Maureen Murphy. I know we are working on interviews with Sharon & The Dynamites and Maureen is coming by the Lightning 100 studios this Thursday at 1pm. She is bringing her keyboard player to perform and show off her amazing vocals! Maureen was one of the finalists in the Music City Mayhem contest and the Hard Rock Ambassadors of Rock competition. Here is a video of Maureen performing at a Lightning 100 showcase at the Mercy Lounge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmu5F-4Flt8

The Dynamites have a new album out on Outta Site records. It's their second album with singer and frontman Charles Walker and an amazing production. I've had an advance copy on my ipod for a while now and know they will be selling a bunch of them this Thursday at Live on the Green. You can also pick it up anytime at Grimey's New & Preloved music. The co-owner of Grimey's is Doyle Davis, also known as D-Funk, and both of the Dynamites albums have been on his record label. Here is a preview of what you will get for free this week. It is a song from their debut album. I'm excited about hearing the new material this week! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMSKk8imYEI

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are this week's headlining act. They should be on stage around 9pm and will play for a little over an hour. I have all their records and have been a big fan for many years now. It will be my first time catching them live though and I can't wait! Here is a video for the song we have been featuring this week on the Live on the Green spotlight. It has over a million views! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ouI5KcyHfE

Live on the Green is a six week concert series and October first is week number five. There will only be one more show after that and it will feature Citizen Cope, Ricky Young, and Next Big Nashville artist Courtney Jaye. Clarence Greenwood, aka Citizen Cope, always puts on a great live show, so that should be a fun way to end the series! I missed most of the concerts unfortunately, because of my health issues this month. The first week was suppose to be my only week off. I had 6th row seats to the Titans game against Green Bay. We caught the end of The Toadies set after Tennessee won. That was the first night I started having pain in my right side. It felt like a cramp you get when you are running and drink too much water. The pain just never went away. I had to DJ a wedding and reception Saturday night at the Music City Sheraton. That night we weren't sure if I would make it though the whole event. It turned out ok but I didn't tell the bride or groom I was afraid I was about to head to the ER. What they don't know can't hurt them, right? All's well that ends well...Actually, it did not end well. Sunday night the pain was so bad I did head to the ER and the rest is history...

My surgery was on Wednesday September 9th and I missed week two of Live on the Green. That week featured Here Come The Mummies, Space Capone, and H-Beam. My first day back to work was Monday, the week Derek Trucks headlined Live on the Green. That show was set to be our biggest one yet and we we're all excited, minus the torrential rain that was in the forecast. We ended up getting lucky that week. It was raining all morning and when we decided to go ahead with the concert that night at 1pm it was still raining. Somehow around 4pm it stopped raining and before it set, the sun even shined on us before the moon took over its duties. That is what I heard at least. I was still taking it easy, and from what I heard, I missed a spectacular live show. With Jack Pearson sharing a large portion of the Derek Trucks Band set. The opener that week is a local band named Homemade Water. They stopped by the Lightning 100 studios to chat and perform for David Hall. Here is the video footage from that afternoon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-PsnfJ34Fc

The day of the concert around 3pm, the owner of our company personally brought over Derek Trucks for an interview. I thought was really cool and that the interview went really smoothly. I do wish he had performed but there is always next year! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qK5jjCuLvCM

Last Thursday was my first full week and one I certainly enjoyed. I was on site around six pm and grabbed one of the many open parking meters, that are free after six pm weekdays downtown. There is also three dollar parking underneath Live on the Green, below the metro courthouse in the underground five story parking garage, and a free manned bicycle check thanks to Walk Bike Nashville. There were break dancers performing at first. Then Thad Cockrell took the stage. He had performed earlier that day on my show and really impressed me. He has a great voice and has written with a ton of people in town. Here is one of the videos from when he was on my show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDcQSE3wtHY

David Hall spoke with the other two acts from last week. Here is footage from Dave Barnes performance on his show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APsjZUv3pYE

Here is David Hall chatting with Matthew Perryman Jones about Dave Barnes and his sense of humor... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gGxlqutwfE

I also want to include in this post footage from last Fridays Colin Hay interview and performance. I had only gotten a couple hours sleep after Live on the Green and was a bit punchy. They say some of the best airshifts are done when you are not feeling your best. I'm not sure if that is true here but Colin Hay (of Men at Work) is hilarious at times and performs two songs in the studio. I'll start with part three of this video series, where he has some incredibly funny things to say about Ringo Starr and performing during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Australia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU9b0_4_tGE

Here is Colin Hay performing Oh California in the Lightning 100 studios. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyJZmV3qtT0

Later that afternoon around three pm, Nashville's own Katie Herzig stopped by the Lightning 100 studios to chat with David Hall and perform for us. Here is a live acoustic version of her song, Wish You Well, which you've been hearing on Lightning 100. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yytlRpF204U

I'll leave you this month with a funny video from the Nashville Dragon Boat races. My dad and I were on the Lightning 100 team this year and it was my first time to be a part of the event. It was a lot of fun and really great to beat the Pirates! Especially since we didn't beat too many other teams! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSt0Ae_sWVk

All the way to August

From http://danbuckley.blogspot.com/

It has been an interesting summer for your good friend Lt. Dan.

I got to take three vacations so far this summer. In June I took my family to visit my Grandma in Reno, NV. She had been in poor health earlier this year and we wanted to introduce her to her new Great Grandson. That was a wonderful visit. It was our third time visiting her and for the first time we stayed in a Casino in town. It was the Peppermill Casino and it really was beautiful. We were in a great room that overlooked a huge swimming area. There were two big pools, three hot tubs, a waterfall flowing from five stories up into an oval heated pool. The water felt like a massage from above. That really was a great experience.

Unfortunately, as in our first trip there when our first daughter was less than a year old, we ended up in the Emergency room again. Last time she had an ear infection and a terrible fever in the middle of the night. This time she had strep throat and an ear infection. Plus, the fever wouldn't respond to the medicine she was on. That was pretty stressful and expensive again. We did buy trip insurance with our travel package and they supposedly will pay the balance of what our insurance company does not. I'll be sure to let you know if that works out. I would highly recommend end it if it does.

For the fourth of July we went to the beautiful area of Galena, IL. It was a fun weekend celebration, although it was also the weekend that Steve McNair was killed. That was such tragic news to receive on the way to the party. I got a text message from a friend, who was in Nashville watching the local coverage. No one there knew at the time, since it was an outdoor barbecue. It was such a harsh and shocking crime. I'll always remember Steve for the hard working athlete he was.

We had a great time on the fourth though. Fireworks are not available in that area and we had brought a bunch of good ones from Tennessee. I guess we have a reputation for having some pretty good fireworks in this part of the country. The do sell them for pest control in Wisconsin but no one had any of those. So my father in law and I shot them off for about an hour. When we were done, the downtown Galena fireworks display began. It was perfect timing and great we could see them well on the hill, without dealing with any kind of traffic or inconveniences.

We not only celebrated the independence of our country that day, we celebrated my father in law's birthday! Check out how cool is cake was!

The week after July fourth, I had the opportunity to attend the Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY. I went with my good friend Justin, whom I've known since he worked at Lightning 100, back when we were at the L&C Tower in downtown Nashville. We had a great time there. We arrived Saturday afternoon and got a hotel room at the Residence Inn by Marriott. Justin negotiated a killer deal, since they only had one room left, which had maintenance issues. They told us the room only had one of the two sinks in working condition. LOL! Like that mattered!

We saw some great bands at Forecastle. A UK funk band called the New Mastersounds, The Black Crowes, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Widespread Panic headlined two nights. One of my favorite bands we caught was the Avett Brothers. They have a show booked in Nashville at the historic Ryman auditorium on Halloween. The Ryman always seems to have great shows on Halloween. I remember moe. playing, one of the only bands that will never be invited back. Not because they weren't great on stage, but because the show got a little too wild for The Ryman. I wonder if Widespread Panic will ever play there again? My guess is that they will not. I know the Ryman had to do some major cleaning, after their October three night run a couple years ago. They also shattered all previous beer records that week. I was lucky enough to do an interview with Dave Schools backstage and attend a backstage party with their keyboard player Jojo. He has been living in the Middle Tennessee area for quite a few years now.

There is lots more to tell and not enough time to write. I have lots of chores to do this weekend. My wife and kids are returning from that vacation in Galena on Monday! I am really excited to see them! It's time to clean the house! I sure have been enjoying listening to music today though. Caught a bunch of Fred's show Retro Lightning. He was featuring the year 1971. I love listening to the late 60's early 70's music on Retro. It always feels like a bit of an education and I like that. I've also been listening to The Raconteurs wonderful record Consoler of the Lonely. It is one of the rare albums that resonates track for track with me. I just love listening to it. I also just listened to the new Features record again, Some kind of Salvation. What a great album that is! As I'm sure you'll hear many times again from me, I am a sucker for horns. I just love how they work them into some of the songs. It's the kind of music that puts you in a good mood, while you listen to it. I actually had the chance to interview them again this past Tuesday. They had self-released their latest album almost a year ago, and it was just made available nationwide, thanks to some help from their old friends Kings Of Leon. The Followills and Features have toured together in the past and have similar success patterns, as far as being bigger over seas than in the Unites States. I really believe the Features should blow it out with their latest effort. Time will tell of course but I am definitely pulling for the guys!

This is Josh Combs again, Dan's intern. I first came to Bonnaroo in 2005 and was thoroughly impressed with just how much amazing music there was in one place. This year has been no exception, the only down side is that is just so hard to make up your mind on where you want to be. For the most part, I've been trying to catch a few songs at almost every show. Wilco wowed the crowd with what some are calling the best performance they had ever seen. Nine Inch Nails was an unbeleivable sensory overload. Ben Harper and Relentless 7 was a show I was looking forward to the most, and it was no disappointment. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played an enduring set that lasted almost 4 hours! MGMT was no surprise one of the best shows of the night for me. Finally, Moe. wrapped things up playing into the sunrise, and this is all just what happened last night! I wish I could see every band that's here this weekend, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Here are a couple more pictures from the weekend so far.

Saturday backstage at Bonnaroo

Saturday has been a fun day backstage. Andrew Bird is in the recording studio and we are almost done for today. Lots of great late night music tonight, so hopefully I will catch a second wind for some of that. Bruce Springsteen is playing and in a couple hours and it will be my first time seeing him in concert. He has quite the reputation for putting on a killer live show. So I am looking forward to that. Caught the Beasties last night and it was off the hook! It was also really crowded where I was. I ended up scoring a stage pass for Phish and caught some of their set as well.

This morning we started the day off at 10am with the Heartless Bastards. They discussed their third album The Mountain, working with a producer for the first time, and told a great Sharon Jones story. By the way, did you know that her band the Dap Kings played on the Amy Winehouse record? They are amazing!

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/HeartlessBastards.mp3

Next up at 11am it was Zee Avi. She told us about getting discovered through a clip on youtube she had posted for a friend and intended on deleting. She also perfomed in front of a crowd outside the studios, which was spectacular!

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/ZeeAvi.mp3

At noon Raphael Saadiq came in for an interview. He was actually feeling ill and did not end up performing in our recording studio. Not that you would have known it if you caught his amazing set today at Bonnaroo. At least, so they tell me. I have been locked in the trailer all day! I can hear Andrew Bird though right now, bleeding through into my studio, and it is stellar! Raphael did do an interview with us, head pounding and chest burning. The former member of Toni Toni Toni talked about his new record and getting to work with Stevie Wonder.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/RaphaelSaadiq.mp3

The Decemberists popped in for an interview while Wilco performed backstage. Colin was not able to make it, but the rest of the gang talked to us about their new concept album, playing the record in its entirety during their live performances, and the Diamond Ladies who are part of the show for this tour.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/Decemberists.mp3

At 1pm we got a great interview out of Jeff Tweedy from Wilco. He discussed the title of The Album, Recording in New Zealand with Neil Finn, a charity project he was a part of their called seven worlds collide, working with Feist, and gave us his take on the record industry and what works for Wilco.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/WilcoJeffTweedy.mp3

Alejandro Escovedo stopped by before getting insulted by Triumph outside the trailer. It was very obvious to me that Alejandro knows how to tell a great story. He talked about his longtime friendship with Chuck Prophet, Co-writing the new record Real Animal with Chuck, Getting to meet Jimmy Carter at the DNC, how the tradition of him closing out SXSW started many moons ago, and how only bands from Texas cover his songs.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/AlejandroEscovedo.mp3

Ben Harper dropped by with his band Relentless 7 for an interview. They were a last minute addition to our schedule and did not perform. Ben told the story of discovering the musicians who would eventually become Relentless 7 by agreeing to listen to his bus drivers demo tape, How he only brings someone in to the studio if he thinks they can bring something he can't, how he feels the horde festival and Blues Traveler deserve credit for the current festival scene, and how his favorite kind of optimism is realism.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/sat/BenHarperRelentless7.mp3

moe. came by for an acoustic backstage performance and stopped by for an interview afterward. They discussed playing their fifth Bonnaroo and how the festival has changed greatly in many ways of the years.

Friday Backstage at Bonnaroo

So far things have been going smoothly. Ani Difranco just stopped by our backstage studios. We are about one third done with the bands today. The first band Delta Spirit canceled on us. I posted about that on Twitter and had a funny response from someone who said, "Doesn't everything on Delta get delayed or canceled?"

The first band through is called Everest. They are on Neil Youngs label Vapor Records. He caught them at the Sundance Festival and became a big fan of the band. In their interview they discussed Neil Young, playing bigger arena size venues, touring with Neil, Wilco, and Death Cab For Cutie, and how the ended up with Eliot Smiths old studio. That part of the interview was really interesting to me.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Friday/EverestInterview.mp3

At noon a band called Low Anthem stopped by our studios to perform and do an interview. They talked about their new album, their obsession with evolution, and how they managed to set fire to a WW1 pump organ while making some Mac & Cheese...

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Friday/LowAnthemInterview.mp3

Evan Watson stopped by the backstage studios to perform and do an interview around 1pm today. He told us that not only was it his first time playing Bonnaroo, it was his first time playing a show outside of New York City! The former football player also explained his love for electronics, how building things makes him feel empowered, and about rebuilding his 79 strat.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Friday/EvanWatsonInterview.mp3

Ani Difranco came by to perform and chat with us backstage around 2pm. She discussed moving to New Orleans, Getting interviewed by CNN about Burma and their struggle for democracy, and being a part of Pete Segers 90th birthday celebration.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Friday/AniDifrancoInterview.mp3

Amadou et Mariam came by around 3pm and were the first band to need a translator for their interview. They are based out of Mali on the west coast of Africa.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Friday/AmadouetMariamInterview.mp3

Tift Merrit came through at 4pm and chatted with us after a quick performance. She discussed her love for indie record stores, writing music in Paris, and getting to interview EmmyLou Harris on her radio program The Spark.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Friday/TiftMerritInterview.mp3

Gov't Mule is performing right now. There should be a few more this evening as well...

Intern Josh's Photos

This is Josh Combs, Lt. Dan's intern here at Bonnaroo. The experience has been amazing so far. We have a full lineup of interviews all day today to keep us busy. Here are some photos I've taken so far this weekend.

Thursday at Bonnaroo!

Thursday is just about over. We are done for the day in the backstage recording and interview studio. We had six bands today and have twelve on tomorrows schedule. I will be back in the trailer by 10am. The internet has been a real bugger back here. Not sure how much I will post tomorrow. Did throw up the rest of the interviews on our ftp server and will put them on here for you to enjoy and share with your friends. I wish I could post the performances but am not allowed to. You can tune in tomorrow and all weekend for our Bonnaroo coverage. We are planning on doing updates once an hour. We have a lot of the Lightning 100 crew working here for the festival this weekend and it is a lot of fun as usual. Need to run so will throw some stuff up for your enjoyment. Please leave a comment if you like this...

Chairlift interview at Bonnaroo

Just had our second band stop by the backstage studios. They are called Chairlift and are based out of Brooklyn, NY. They talked about their friendship with fellow Brooklyn bands MGMT and Grizzly Bear, why they are ok with having their song Bruises used in an ipod commercial, and the secret ipod handshake.

http://ftp.wrlt.com/production/BonnarooINT/Chairliftinterview.mp3

Alberta Cross

Here is the first backstage interview of the day with a band called Alberta Cross. They are based in brooklyn but came from London.

Bonnaroo 2009!

I've been on site for a little over 24 hours now and we are about to get the first band in the 2009 Backstage @ Bonnaroo Studios! I am pretty pumped! Working with a great crew again this year. We will also have some stellar bands coming through the backstage studios. Some of them you have heard of like Gomez and Ani Difranco. Others you haven't heard of yet, but as we have all come to know well, Bonnaroo is about seeing you favorite bands and finding some new ones!

I'll try and throw up photos and cool stuff here and on facebook this weekend...

TO TAKE PLACE AUGUST 28 – 30, 2009

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW AT WWW.SFOUTSIDELANDS.COM
San Francisco -- Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly Productions and Starr Hill Presents, in a partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, are proud to announce the line-up for the second annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. The multi-faceted, three-day festival will once again take place in San Francisco's historic Golden Gate Park August 28 – 30, 2009. A significant portion of every ticket sold will directly benefit San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department.

In one year, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival singlehandedly raised the bar for live music in Northern California. Now an annual gathering, this year's lineup will solidify Outside Lands as the premier festival in the region, with unmatched creative programming that showcases leading artists in many musical scenes, including rock, pop, world music, soul, hip-hop and electronic. Like the inaugural event, major national headliners such as Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, Incubus, Black Eyed Peas, Jason Mraz, Thievery Corporation, Ween, The Mars Volta, TV on the Radio, Tom Jones, Built To Spill, Calexico, The National and Q-Tip, will perform alongside exceptional emerging artists such as Deerhunter, Heartless Bastards, Blind Pilot, Mastodon, Trombone Shorty and Dengue Fever. Local acts such as The Dodos, The Morning Benders, Brett Dennen, John Vanderslice, Raphael Saadiq and SambaDa will be featured prominently as the festival strives to highlight the great artists of the region.

Outside Lands has emerged as a familiar brand representing its own unique approach to celebrating the deep traditions of Northern California culture that are revered across the globe. At no other festival event can one experience the best music while eating world-class food and drinking some of the finest and most interesting wines available today. From tacos to raw food to oysters to nouveau to dim sum, San Francisco's famously top-rated and diverse cuisine is on hand to offer fans the greatest culinary delights imaginable, while the artisan wine tent onsite assembles under one roof some of the most wonderful local wineries, all richly steeped in the history of the region. These wineries are looked upon as some of the best the world has to offer and it's a rare and special occurrence when all of them come together in one location.

Besides music, food and wine, Northern California is best known as one of the technology and ecology capitals of the world. The festival celebrates the former with Crowdfire, the online Outside Lands community. In association with local company Federated Media, Crowdfire is an incredibly unique platform for sharing and creating event media within the festival grounds as well as with the online community at large. As for the latter, since San Francisco is front and center in the global discussion on ecological concerns, the festival has created Eco Lands, a place where the stage and cell phone charging station is powered by solar energy, where one can eat sustainable foods at an organic farmer's market and where one can find the refillable water station and the recycling store. Outside Lands aims to be one of the largest carbon neutral events in the country and there is no better place to reach that goal than on the grounds of the one of the world's most famous parks.

“We are so proud to have introduced this vital and unique annual event to the music fans in San Francisco,” said Superfly's Rick Farman. “We are really excited to be back and can't wait to unveil all we're planning. The great lineup is just the tip of the iceberg.”

By continuing to bring an endless selection of the best music and activities that celebrate the vibrant culture of the Bay Area, this year's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival is poised to cement it as one of the premier music events in the country.

Mayhem in Music City

Not quite Music City Mayhem. More literally, Mayhem in Music City, as in May is flying by and there is a lot going on. Personally, I am working late again tonight and currently recording in section two of Music Business Radio, which sounds great! Then prepping for a wedding reception I will be DJing tomorrow near Chatanooga, TN in Sawanee. Home to the University of the South. Should be fun, although it is outdoors and the weather has been really stormy lately!

So the wife and kids returned this week from a ten day trip to Illinois. It was so great having them back at the house. I'm looking forward to spending the day with them on Sunday. Hopefully we will have decent weather!

Cinco De Mayo was raging beside La Paz and I caught this rocking local Nashville band, The Justin Kalk Orchestra. I have actually seen them with a horn section before, which was terrific, but just as a four piece you can really see their talent. I think there are big things ahead for them...

I had a couple of the local Nashville Singer Songwriters on my show yesterday. They did a Carole King / James Taylor song. They sound great in the video and the ending is pretty funny. Again kudos to our webguy Brian Waters.

We have a new contest going on right now at Lightning100.com called Why not you at Bonnaroo?! Here is a sample video our web guy brian made that I really like!

In case you missed it, Jonell Mosser was in my studios recently. Here is part one of the interview & performance...

Meiko stopped by the Lightning 100 studios again, after her recent Nashville Sunday Night performance. This time to chat with our morning show host Mary Brace. She will be back in town again in June with Eric Hutchinson for a gig at 12th & Porter. Here she is doing her hit song Boys with Girlfriends.

James Morrison was in town recently for a show at the Cannery Ballroom. He stopped by the Lightning 100 studios that afternoon to chat with David Hall. Here he is doing his hit song, Nothing ever hurt like you!

This is a link to the Lightning 100 Youtube.com channel. Lots more videos to come this summer! We will be at Bonnaroo covering the festival again before you know it!

Forecastle Festival July 10-12th Louisville, KY

Here is another festival that seems pretty cool. Just north of Nashville in Louisville this July is the Forecastle Festival. Just got this email from them about the lineup:

Dear Friends ~

The Forecastle Festival and Nederlander Entertainment are proud to announce the complete festival lineup of the 8th annual Forecastle Festival, July 10th – 12th at the Riverfront Belvedere in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.

Cage the Elephant, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Man Man, Designer Drugs, The Detroit Cobras, and Maps and Atlases have been added, along with over fifty bands and DJs performing on (4) festival stages: West, East, Ocean, Disco. The new additions follow the previous announcement of Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, and The Avett Brothers as festival headliners, with Zappa plays Zappa, Umphrey’s McGee, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Pretty Lights as lead supports.

The art and activism line-ups have also been revealed, both of which will feature the San Francisco-based Sustainable Living Roadshow, a caravan of educators, entertainers, artists and activists coordinating cross country tours that empower communities and individuals to utilize sustainable strategies for a healthier planet. Traveling in a fleet of non-petroleum based renewable fuel vehicles, the caravan sets up experiential-learning villages, featuring workshops, speakers, and entertainment.

Forecastle’s 2009 Keynote Speaker will be Christopher Childs. An expert on energy, the former Greenpeace spokesperson and NACA Lecturer of the Year is the author of The Spirit's Terrain: Creativity, Activism, and Transformation, a book which offers ways to draw on creative spirit to change the world.

The complete lineup and day-to-day schedule is available on our website: www.ForecastleFest.com.

Tickets are on-sale via ticketmaster.com/forecastle, all ticketmaster outlets, and your local, independent record store. Advance tickets are $40 per day, $100 for three days. Get them while they last, as there is a limited capacity.

Bonnaroo is in 1 month!

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is in one month from today! Yours truly will be working backstage again this year and will actually be on site in less than a month. I'll be heading on there Wednesday morning and staying until Monday afternoon. It will be my fifth year in a row working at the festival...

I've spent the last week living as a bachelor. Last weekend my wife spearheaded a bake sale for St. Jude (we ended up raising over $1,000 for them!) and then headed north to visit family. The wife and kids will be returning this Wednesday and I couldn't be happier. It is not much fun coming home after a long days work to an empty quiet house. With three kids now, I just can't get use to the quietness! Who knew my refrigerator was that loud! LOL!

For now the tv is on and I am getting to watch sports, so I shouldn't complain. The NBA series has been great so far!

On Mothers Day I played golf. Sounds horrible right? I mean, on Mothers Day I was out on the golf course having fun?! Well, my mom is visiting her mom, and my wife is visiting her mom. So my dad and I were left to fend for ourselves! We ended up getting a great tee time. They normally will not even give you one if you are only a twosome! It was a beautiful day for golf. We played Windtree in Mount Juliet and it was completely empty all morning. I love getting to play on a nice course when it is not crowded. It was my first time getting to play this year. As you can imagine, with a seven month old I do not get much downtime! I ended up beat my dad on the back nine for the first time ever! And he plays all the time! HA! I did make him tee off from the young guy tees, which may have had an effect on his score! LOL! Lots of fun though.

The wife and kids have been having a blast up north. Hanging out on the family farm. Plating all kinds of fun stuff. Hunting for morale mushrooms. They made over $500 finding and selling those!

I'll end this update with a photo from the bake sale. Delbert McClinton is coming by to chat with David Hall tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. I had the honors last year and David has dibs this year. Should also have good giveaways this week and am working on getting a few instudio guests...fingers crossed...

This week in Music City

Lots going on this week again in Nashville and at the radio station!

Thursday night we are going to find out what Nashville band will be representing Music City in the Hard Rock Ambassador of Rock battle of the bands. Kink Ador, Justin Kalk Orchestra, Maureen Murphy, and Old Union will put on a great show at the Hard Rock Cafe Nashville. 9pm All ages & Free Admission! Also on Thursday Starr Hill brewmaster Mark Thompson is back in town and we will hang with him and enjoy a few Starr Hills. 5:30pm at Beyond The Edge Then 8pm at Broadway Brewhouse Midtown. Friday is the first Miller Made Music Showcase of 2009 at Mercy Lounge. A free 21 & over show featuring four great local bands. Brenn, Umbrella Tree, Shoot The Mountain, and Philos will perform starting at 9pm. I will also have Brenn stop by the Lightning 100 studios Friday at 1pm to chat about themselves and the show. Local Lightning guru DJ Justin Hammell will host, which means I am going to DJ Friday night for him at the Flying Saucer. 10pm-1am Late night! Come by, say hello and make a request! I will not be getting much rest or sleep Friday night. I have to DJ Saturday morning at the Country Music Marathon finish line in the New Balance tent. Come say hello as well there but be warned...it is the Country Music Marathon and I will not necessarily be playing your favorite Lightning 100 tunes! Maybe some Alison Krauss or Nickelcreek...Then I am taking my wife to the DMB concert this Saturday night! Told you there was a lot going on! I would write more but I have to go host the Lightning 100 request lunch and the phones will be ringing like crazy since I have Dave tix...

PS Do not forget about the Bake Sale at the Smyrna Kroger on Sam Ridley next Sat May 2nd I'll have some tix to give there as well and we want to raise as much as we can for St. Jude!! I'll tell you more about that soon...

Added info about tailgating!

Tailgating is fine - parking lots open at 6:00 am. I believe alcohol is
a no-no. However, I can't get an answer from Vandy. I wonder if there
is info on their website regarding rules for football tailgating? I am
guessing the answer is no.
BUT that said, they will be serving beer inside the stadium!

Interview Bonanza!

What a week this has been! Here is the scoop on what went down and when...

Monday @ 4:20pm Call Todd Rundgren in his Hotel room

I did as much prep as I could for the TR interview. He is such a brilliant guy who has been in the business for over 40 years...

Tuesday @ 3pm Ben Folds comes by the Tuned In Broadcasting Lightning 100 studios

Ben Folds is someone I have been a fan of for a long time. Before I lived in Nashville, I lived in Cary, NC and Ben was based out of Chapel Hill NC at that point. He is not the easiest person to interview in the world and he gave me a great one!

Wednesday @ 1pm Announce Eddie Vedder concert, Then air Ben Folds interview

We barely got the Ben Folds interview edited and on air by 1pm. In fact, it aired a few minutes after 1pm. I had the big concert announcement to make for Eddie Vedder at the Ryman at 1pm and planned on airing the Ben Folds interview immediately afterward. Thanks to help from Justin Hammel I was able to get it on after playing an Eddie Vedder song but barely! All's well that ends well...

Thursday @ noon interview Maureen Murphy

Today I had the lovely Maureen Murphy on my show for a great interview at noon. She is terrific and has an amazing voice. She has made it into the final two bands of our Music City Mayhem Local Lightning tournament sponsored by Yazoo Brew. She has the goods and I wish her all the best!

Thursday @ 1pm interview Moon Taxi

A couple of the guys from Moon Taxi came in for an interview at 1pm. They are competing today against Maureen Murphy to be the Music City Mayhem Champion. I have blogged about them before and am a big fan of their live show. These kids are talented musicians with a lot of potential. I wish them the best of luck as well.

Friday @ noon interview Ten out of Tenn

I will have at least 6 of the Ten out of Tenn on my show at noon tomorrow. It should be a lot of fun. They are coming off a successful west coast tour and have a hometown show Friday night at the Cannery Ballrooom. We will give away tickets to the show and to the documentary about them that will be airing at The Nashville Film Festival next week. I will also have a pair of tickets to give away to Eddie Vedder at the Ryman Auditorium!

More craziness is on the horizon...

Interviewing someone playing at 3rd & Lindsley next Friday @ noon

Interview the Dynamites next Friday @ 1pm

More interviews are tentative as we promote Earth Day next Saturday April 18th at Cenntennial Park. A fun free concert with some great local and national music.
