A great 2008!

Well folks, it has been another great year for your good friend Lt. Dan. With 2009 just over the horizon, I think I should take a quick look back at 2008. My day planner seems to remember the year a little better than I can, so I will start with a review of January 2008.

January was the start of another year and we had a big concert tour that made its way to Nashville, TN. Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters came to Municipal Auditorium, Saturday January 26th. Of course, yours truly was not at the show, instead I was DJing a wedding reception right down the street! My greatest memory from that night was all the static electricity in the air! I had most of my music on the hard drive of my laptop and I'm pretty certain that the static energy caused my computer to crash. It booted back up and I didn't miss a beat, but that was a pretty big scare. I will have everything on cd as well from now on. In fact, I have been using my ipod as a backup as well. Have to have lots of tricks up your sleave and be ready for the unexpected when you are a wedding DJ! It was a fun night but obviously I would have loved to been at the Foo Fighters concert. My good friend and fellow employee Jayson Chalfant was their with his brother Joel and had the opportunity to interview Dave Grohl before the show. We aired it Monday morning and then included it a few weeks later during an episode of Music Business Radio. Click Here to listen

Wow..I have run out of time for now but promise to update soon...

ok, here is the next update...

I am at the station recording in part 4 of this weekends episode of Music Business Radio. It is a repeat from earlier in the year with Allen Butler. Which means I have a few minutes for blogging.

Taking a peak into the month of February reminds me of spending Mardis Gras at the Mercy Lounge this year. What a trip that was! Jojo from Widespread Panic was playing with his Mardis Gras band and I was scheduled to do an interview before the show. I was waiting for him backstage when my wife called my cell phone to warn me there was a tornado on the way! They ended up evacuating us into the Cannery downstairs before Jojo finally arrived. Eventually they brought us back upstairs and I got to do a quick interview with Jojo. It was fun and is on a DAT tape somewhere...need to add converting that to an mp3 to my list of things to do! I got to do some other fun interviews in February. Ingrid Michaelson was on my show and I interviewed Webb Wilder while I covered for Mary on the morning show. Webb is great and is also a Music Business Radio alumni.

Looks like I am running out of time again for now but promise to update.

Also, please feel free to send me an email if you enjoy reading my blog.

Keating Daniel Buckley

On Friday September 12th, 2008 my first son was born!

Keating Daniel Buckley. 8lbs 6oz 20in

He was healthy and the fact that he was a boy came as a complete surprise! We had found out what our first was and almost did not find out what our second was. We had it in an envelope and gave in when family was over for a celebration. This time we held out and did not find out until he was born. My wife did have a pretty solid hunch it was a boy though. She said everything was different this time. His sisters were certainly excited to hold him though!

Here is a photo of big sister getting to hold him

I have more pictures on myspace and facebook, so look me up if you haven't seen them yet. I will be taking the next week off work and putting in half days the following week. As we continue to adjust to our newly expanded family. Heather Lose will be covering my airshift until then. Thanks to Heather, Justin, Nadine, Fred, and the whole Tuned In Broadcasting / Lightning 100 staff for helping to make my time off possible. We said if we had a boy we would have another, so look out 2009!

September 2008

Just getting home after another late night at the office. Have been trying to prepare over the past few weeks for some time off. My wife and I are expecting our 3rd child any time now. She was actually due Sunday. Boy will she be happy when it finally comes! It has been a long 9 months to say the least. I have been plenty busy, which is why I haven't posted many blogs.

I think like many people, I have been spending more time on facebook, and less time on myspace. Seems like there are enough people exclusive to each, that I will keep up with them both. I did invite my myspace friends to find me here though. My intention is to make this my primary blog.

So, did anyone tune in to my show today and hear someone else's voice? It might have sounded familiar to the Nashville veterans. Part of my preparation for taking time off when the baby is born, has recently included training my new backup quarterback. Her name is Heather Lose and she is a real pro. I believe she was the music director for our former and wonderful radio station Thunder 94. That station is the reason I got into radio, although she was already gone by the time I discovered it in 1997. She sounded great on air today, butterflies and all. In fact I took a picture of her and should post it on here for you. Will see if I can do that after I do a little more typing. I'm sure there is more to talk about...

I have ESPN on in the background as Denver appears to be beating Oakland. No surprise there. Oakland has been terrible for a couple years now and I don't expect much change this season. You never know and that is part of the fun of football. The Titans can beat the Jaguars, The Bears can beat The Colts, The Patriots can lose to The Giants in the superbowl. Bad news yesterday as well about Tom Brady. Looks like he is out for the year. Also looks like Vince Young will be out for a couple weeks. Kerry Collins did look pretty solid though.

I have been a Titans fan, since the Oilers came to Tennessee. I am from California but grew up in North Carolina. Since NC didn't have a pro team until the Panthers, I remained a devout 49ers fan as a kid. Wasn't too hard since it was the Montana / Rice era. Also, both my parents grew up in the bay area, so it was a natural fit.

I don't make it to many Titans games but did get to take my Dad to his first a couple weeks ago. That was a blast and I have to thank my good friend Jayson for hooking me up with his season tickets for the night. He actually had someone else's tickets, and was in the front row behind the bench for the first three quarters. Then we got to sit in them during the fourth quarter. What a blast that was. Especially getting to be there with my Dad. We use to go to all the NC State games when I was a kid. I would take turns with my sister and go every other home game. We had great seats back then and always had fun tailgating. Lots of KFC over the years. That and popcorn. It was back when grocery stores had paper bags and we would put the popcorn into them and make different flavor variations. I also remember eating a lot of hotdogs. Go Wolfpack!

Ok, I am getting tired, so remind me to put up that picture of Heather if you are interested. Seems like most of my photos end up on myspace or facebook, so make sure we are connected.

Zach Gill - solo debut from ALO lead singer

Just got an advance copy of Zach Gill's new album, "Family"! I'm writing as I give it the virgin listen. It has a very mellow and relaxing vibe. The kind of record that you could play at a party in the middle of summer and see a lot of smiles on your fellow friends faces. I'm not sure who all plays on the album but bet there are a lot of his brushfire label mates. Think I recognized John Cruz on track 2 .

It totally makes sense that they titled this record Family. Zach is an old friend of Jack Johnson, who has created label called, "Brushfire Records". From what I can tell, a lot of the artists are old surfing buddies of Jack's.

Woa! Just heard him reference EPA! East Palo Alto! that is where my cousin Steve lives!

Anyhow, there is this interesting Family vibe happening at Brushfire records. All these guys are playing on each others records. Kind of like the days of Motown. Look forward to getting a look at the liner notes. That is the downside of an advance copy, usually there is no artwork or liner notes!

On the second half of the record now and really like track 7. It is fun and upbeat. I bet it is called, "Handyman". The track listing is printed directly on the cd so I'm not 100% on that but bet I'm right. He is jamming out with background singers. Wonder who it is. Kind of sounded like Tristan Prettyman. Know she is a surfer so they may be friends!

Ok, checking out track 10 which is really Jazzy. Like the smooth vibe it has. See he is touring this fall and hope to catch him in Nashville!

Looks like Zach Gill's Stuff will be coming out July 29th and I wouldn't be surprised if you hear it on the radio in early August. It is cool to actually get an advance copy of a record. Use to see a lot more of them but in the days of people worrying about leaks on the internet there are less and less advance copies available to people like me. I decided I would encourage them to send more by doing a blog about it. The truth is though most records that show up in the mail for me at work are not this good. Of course "good" is relative to the consumer but as I have heard David Hooper say a million times, "a good song is a good song is a good song!" This is a good record though and one for anyone who is a fan of ALO, Jack Johnson, Leon Russell, Levon Helm, or Bob Marley.

Post Bonnaroo

Bonnaroo was great again this year and I have many stories to tell. My friend gave Phil Lesh a high five backstage, I got to talk to Ben Folds and many others about being guests on Music Business Radio, I worked really hard and had another great time. My 5th year in a row at the festival.

Spending the night tonight near Chicago. Heading to Galena, IL in the morning for a wedding this weekend.

When things get back to normal sometime next week...

I plan on producing a Backstage @ Bonnaroo radio special.

So stay tuned!

And post your favorite photos from the roo!

Thanks,

Dan
