The Flood of 2010

Middle Tennessee received epic flooding over the weekend. We are still drying out and need is great. I want to post some links to charity organizations and tell the story of our co-worker who lost her home in a fire Monday morning.

One of our sales people lost her home on Pennington Bend in Nashville. Channel 4 news was shooting video via helicopter and you can watch the footage here:

This was happening Monday morning and they had actually tried to get her to evacuate the night before but wouldn't rescue her dog as well, so she stayed. Her gas water heater shorted out, caught fire and exploded, catching her car on fire. Then her house caught on fire and she called 911. They said they couldn't get to her because of the flooded river and told her to get in the water with a wet blanket over her head, because her house could explode. As they were bracing for the explosion a man on a jet ski came to their rescue. Her, two friends, and the dog, climbed aboard the jet ski and with the nose almost straight in the air, drove off to safety, just as the house exploded in an eruption of fire.

Here is a video of her being interviewed on NBC

She is lucky to be alive, and I'm avoiding using her name for privacy reasons. Many of you know her though, as she has worked at the station since the 90's and been a part of many great events, both for profit and charity. If this story reaches out to your heart and you would like to make a donation to her, you're welcome to bring or send it to the station. I had a listener say they would like to send a Walmart card.

Check out their website to learn more. They have two funds set up for Flood relief efforts. One for Metro Nashville, the other for Middle Tennessee.
