Mayhem in Music City

Not quite Music City Mayhem. More literally, Mayhem in Music City, as in May is flying by and there is a lot going on. Personally, I am working late again tonight and currently recording in section two of Music Business Radio, which sounds great! Then prepping for a wedding reception I will be DJing tomorrow near Chatanooga, TN in Sawanee. Home to the University of the South. Should be fun, although it is outdoors and the weather has been really stormy lately!

So the wife and kids returned this week from a ten day trip to Illinois. It was so great having them back at the house. I'm looking forward to spending the day with them on Sunday. Hopefully we will have decent weather!

Cinco De Mayo was raging beside La Paz and I caught this rocking local Nashville band, The Justin Kalk Orchestra. I have actually seen them with a horn section before, which was terrific, but just as a four piece you can really see their talent. I think there are big things ahead for them...



I had a couple of the local Nashville Singer Songwriters on my show yesterday. They did a Carole King / James Taylor song. They sound great in the video and the ending is pretty funny. Again kudos to our webguy Brian Waters.

Meiko stopped by the Lightning 100 studios again, after her recent Nashville Sunday Night performance. This time to chat with our morning show host Mary Brace. She will be back in town again in June with Eric Hutchinson for a gig at 12th & Porter. Here she is doing her hit song Boys with Girlfriends.



James Morrison was in town recently for a show at the Cannery Ballroom. He stopped by the Lightning 100 studios that afternoon to chat with David Hall. Here he is doing his hit song, Nothing ever hurt like you!

Forecastle Festival July 10-12th Louisville, KY

Here is another festival that seems pretty cool. Just north of Nashville in Louisville this July is the Forecastle Festival. Just got this email from them about the lineup:

Dear Friends ~

The Forecastle Festival and Nederlander Entertainment are proud to announce the complete festival lineup of the 8th annual Forecastle Festival, July 10th – 12th at the Riverfront Belvedere in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.

Cage the Elephant, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Man Man, Designer Drugs, The Detroit Cobras, and Maps and Atlases have been added, along with over fifty bands and DJs performing on (4) festival stages: West, East, Ocean, Disco. The new additions follow the previous announcement of Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, and The Avett Brothers as festival headliners, with Zappa plays Zappa, Umphrey’s McGee, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Pretty Lights as lead supports.

The art and activism line-ups have also been revealed, both of which will feature the San Francisco-based Sustainable Living Roadshow, a caravan of educators, entertainers, artists and activists coordinating cross country tours that empower communities and individuals to utilize sustainable strategies for a healthier planet. Traveling in a fleet of non-petroleum based renewable fuel vehicles, the caravan sets up experiential-learning villages, featuring workshops, speakers, and entertainment.

Forecastle’s 2009 Keynote Speaker will be Christopher Childs. An expert on energy, the former Greenpeace spokesperson and NACA Lecturer of the Year is the author of The Spirit's Terrain: Creativity, Activism, and Transformation, a book which offers ways to draw on creative spirit to change the world.

Bonnaroo is in 1 month!

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is in one month from today! Yours truly will be working backstage again this year and will actually be on site in less than a month. I'll be heading on there Wednesday morning and staying until Monday afternoon. It will be my fifth year in a row working at the festival...

I've spent the last week living as a bachelor. Last weekend my wife spearheaded a bake sale for St. Jude (we ended up raising over $1,000 for them!) and then headed north to visit family. The wife and kids will be returning this Wednesday and I couldn't be happier. It is not much fun coming home after a long days work to an empty quiet house. With three kids now, I just can't get use to the quietness! Who knew my refrigerator was that loud! LOL!

For now the tv is on and I am getting to watch sports, so I shouldn't complain. The NBA series has been great so far!

On Mothers Day I played golf. Sounds horrible right? I mean, on Mothers Day I was out on the golf course having fun?! Well, my mom is visiting her mom, and my wife is visiting her mom. So my dad and I were left to fend for ourselves! We ended up getting a great tee time. They normally will not even give you one if you are only a twosome! It was a beautiful day for golf. We played Windtree in Mount Juliet and it was completely empty all morning. I love getting to play on a nice course when it is not crowded. It was my first time getting to play this year. As you can imagine, with a seven month old I do not get much downtime! I ended up beat my dad on the back nine for the first time ever! And he plays all the time! HA! I did make him tee off from the young guy tees, which may have had an effect on his score! LOL! Lots of fun though.

The wife and kids have been having a blast up north. Hanging out on the family farm. Plating all kinds of fun stuff. Hunting for morale mushrooms. They made over $500 finding and selling those!

I'll end this update with a photo from the bake sale. Delbert McClinton is coming by to chat with David Hall tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. I had the honors last year and David has dibs this year. Should also have good giveaways this week and am working on getting a few instudio guests...fingers crossed...
